Training, Mortgages & Crayons

myCUmortgage Monster Coloring PageDid anyone tell the mortgage industry that we’re in the middle of a pandemic? Taking from the activity we’ve seen at myCUmortgage, our partner credit unions must be using high-grade rocket fuel to keep up with the demand for home loans and refis for their members. And, much like the depths of space, there is no end in sight.

Many credit unions that offer mortgage loans to their members may be asking, “How do we keep up this pace while continuing to deliver excellent service to our members?” In other words, how do they continue to be GREAT mortgage lenders?

While there are many tools and services that could help accomplish this, you can’t be a GREAT mortgage lender without the right training. That’s something we stress to our credit union partners because, without the right training, you can never expect to realize the full potential of your lending team and the tools they use.

We’re fortunate to have an excellent Training Team here at myCUmortgage—shout out to Angie and Katie! Any of our partners will attest to that! The Training Team provides ongoing educational resources to our partner credit unions—as I see it, it’s one of the best benefits of our partnership. The Training Team has created the right mix of courses and webinars that strike the perfect balance of quality and quantity. For example, each month presents our credit union partners with opportunities to learn the basics of working with myCUmortgage; how to capitalize on government and conventional lending programs; working with myCUmortgage Servicing to deliver five-star service to your members; and much, much more.

On top of these monthly offerings, the Training Team has their ears to the ground, listening for timely topics in the credit union mortgage industry. A great example is what they are doing during this COVID-19 pandemic. While uncertainly continues to loom on the horizon, the team recently created a variety of webinars addressing forbearance, default, hardship relief and related topics to show what we can and are doing to help members in these uncertain times. Plus, they’re always ready to answer questions about current and future home loan trends and putting our partner credit unions at ease.

While thus far I’ve focused on training that myCUmortgage can deliver, I also encourage credit unions to look to other industry professionals and take advantage of the continuing education opportunities they have to offer. Every day, I get emails about new courses and webinars from a variety of organizations. Be it industry associations or any one of various vendors in the mortgage space, there are some great opportunities you can’t afford to miss. Speaking of afford, the best part is that a lot of these sessions are free.

As we continue to respect social distancing and working-from-home during this pandemic, the ability for you to carve out a little time each week for training is better than ever. “But Mort,” you say. “Time is still at a premium, and besides, how can I get any quality training completed with my kids and spouse disrupting me?”

The key to this is to set a schedule for yourself and family. Also, if possible, create a dedicated workspace that separates you from any potential disruptions. If that doesn’t work, may I suggest coloring with crayons? Yes, I said coloring.

Check out our myCUmortgage Monsters on these downloadable PDFs designed to be colored by you or anyone else in your household. It’s a great way to keep distractions at bay and have a little fun in the process. In fact, we’d love to see your personal masterpieces—I encourage you to submit your completed artwork to [email protected], and you just might be featured in a future post or in the newsletter.

And, as always, if any of our credit union partners have questions, they can always contact the Training Team at [email protected]. The entire myCUmortgage Team is here, ready to help you get trained and be the GREAT mortgage lender your members need.
