While not a mainstay on most calendars I’ve ever seen, including Earth and Amicitian day planners, today is Superhero Day! It’s a day to recognize and appreciate all the heroic acts of kindness the people around us do every day. It’s a day to unleash your inner superhero and celebrate your favorites – mine happens to be Space Ghost. He combines our shared familiarity of the cosmos with my admiration for uncanny specters. Plus, I dig his white suit, great voice and sidekick, Blip the Monkey!
Today gives us all a chance to reflect upon the superheroes in our own lives and helps us realize that superpowers aren’t a necessity to be a superhero, especially in our field of credit union mortgage lending. Here in the Midwest, we have one such superhero in Mortgage Man who can be seen in the skies above Portsmouth, Ohio, looking for credit union members who need help in their quest for homeownership.
Mortgage Man is a great example of what being a credit union mortgage lending superhero is all about. And, quite honestly, being superhero-like is almost an expectation of many members pursuing a mortgage, as they are not familiar with the complete home loan process as those of us who live and breathe it nearly every day.
In true credit union spirit, we can all agree that if a member wants a mortgage superhero, that’s exactly what we will strive to deliver. The good news is whether you realize it or not, you are already a mortgage superhero – your special powers may not be evident to the naked eye, but they are there. For example, some of these powers include:
- Anti-invisibility: Space Ghost would not be a great mortgage lender because of his ability to be invisible. You, on the other hand, are front and center with your members, your cape waving in the wind with a welcoming smile on your face. To make sure you maintain anti-invisibility, you should employ your complete array of powerful marketing tools. This will help make it evident to members and potential borrowers that you are the mortgage superhero they seek.
- X-ray Vision: While you may not be able to see through walls, you can see through the entire mortgage loan process, from application to closing to servicing through the life of the loan. You see every step of the process in intricate detail and relay it to your members in easily understandable communications. Plus, your x-ray vision can help identify potential issues that you can then fend off in true superhero fashion, using everything within your power to help your member get a mortgage – and keep their home once they have it.
- A Utility Belt: Holy mortgage technology, Batman! As much as your members want the true TLC that only a credit union can deliver, they also want technology to assist them and expedite the home loan process. User-friendly application interfaces, automated alerts, property evaluation tools, payment calculators, mortgage access interfaces… the list of available technologies in mortgage lending goes on and on, so make sure your utility belt is fully loaded and use these tools to help your members.
- Overcoming Darkness: Every step of the homeownership trail is not easy, even for a mortgage superhero; however, a true mortgage superhero can help overcome any darkness that may fall on a member’s home loan journey. Using the powers already highlighted here, you can help members stay positive in a challenging market, avoid potential pitfalls and assist if the unavoidable happens. I mean, who better than a mortgage superhero would you want battling and overcoming the dark home loan nemesis known as The Stip?!
- Magic: In the genuine credit union way of doing business, we make the impossible a reality as best we can for the good citizens of Credit Unionville. I can attest that it is this magic that the experts of myCUmortgage embody. Nothing is more heroic than overcoming what seems to be impossible odds to make homeownership – both attaining a home and keeping that home – a reality.
What other superpowers are needed to be a mortgage superhero? What powers have you personally used to help your members? Please share here and embrace the true meaning of Superhero Day!
And to Mortgage Man: If you are out there reading this, I bow my eyestalks in your direction for continuing to make homeownership a reality for your members. If you ever want to team up with me and some other mortgage superheroes, it would make for a very mighty Mortgage Justice League!
