I have a confession to make. I was preparing an insightful and informative post for my subscribers and followers this week, one that loosely connects to the holidays that we’re celebrating in the coming days and weeks. It was heavy on details and legalities – a true asset for credit union mortgage lenders who are helping members fulfill their dreams of homeownership.
But then the spirit of the holidays hit me, and with the keen observations of our two new Marketing Team members, Kevin and Britton, I realized that something lighter and seasonal is more appropriate for a post going out on Festivus (you’re welcome, Seinfeld fans!). Plus, I couldn’t get the image of Bob Cratchit having a very difficult time focusing on his job when Christmas Day was almost upon him out of my head. I’m betting that same spirit is running through all of you as well, no matter the holiday you’re celebrating. (And don’t worry – I’ll still be doing that post I alluded to earlier, just at a later date.)
If you follow myCUmortgage’s posts on LinkedIn, you know that the spirit of the holidays has been running strong with all our experts. Be it celebrations of togetherness, volunteering time to those less fortunate or wrapping gifts to raise money for charity, the spirit of the season is evident. As I’ve been relaxing and enjoying holiday broadcasts and entertainment next to the cozy LED fireplace I was gifted last year for my spaceship, it occurred to me that this same spirit of helping, supporting and giving to one another can be found all year through in myCU’s culture.
As I wrote about in my post, Trust Me, the myCUmortgage culture is best illustrated through our five brand pillars. Keeping in the spirit of the holidays and the lighter side of information delivery, I’ve taken our five brand pillars and correlated their messages and meanings to five popular holiday movies. I hope you get as much from reading these as I did writing them.
Expert Leadership & The Santa Clause: In the movie, Scott Calvin was initially a bit reluctant when he put on the Santa suit and took upon the duties of the jolliest elf at the North Pole. That’s the same reluctance we all feel when we dive into something new, especially a job. As he familiarized himself with his new vocation, Scott embraced his leadership of the largest toy manufacturing facility in the world, learned the business, honed his skills and became the best Santa Claus imaginable. It’s that spirited leadership that drives our experts to help you assist more members with ho-ho-home ownership. No Santa suit required!
Comprehensive Solutions & Home Alone: When Kevin McCallister found himself unexpectedly alone and next on the hit list of the Wet Bandits, he didn’t panic. Instead, he got creative and identified existing solutions in his house, setting up ingenious traps to overcome Harry and Marv. Mortgage lending has its own set of challenges, ones that make the Wet Bandits look like sugarplums. With an array of comprehensive home loan solutions at hand, myCUmortgage always ensures our partner credit unions are prepared to overcome the unexpected for their members.
Expert Guidance & Miracle on 34th Street: In credit union mortgage lending, we all want to do what’s best for our members to help ensure their homeownership dreams are fulfilled. The Macy’s Santa Claus felt the same in ensuring children were able to get what they wished for on Christmas by directing parents to where they could find everything on their kids’ lists, even if that meant sending them to other retailers. When the experts at myCUmortgage see or discover processes or products that can improve a member’s chances of owning a home, they do not hesitate to provide the necessary guidance.
Partner Focused Service & Christmas with the Kranks: When Luther and Nora Krank’s plans to skip Christmas go awry, their team of neighbors stepped up and provided much-needed help, assistance and service to create a festive homecoming for the Krank’s daughter and fiancé. In fact, they dropped everything they were doing on Christmas Eve to make sure it happened. It’s this same kind of selfless dedication, drive and passion that make the myCUmortgage experts optimal partners to you and your credit union.
Peace of Mind & It’s a Wonderful Life: Everyone knows the story of George Bailey and his struggles to simply live a happy life and provide for his family while keeping his dreams of world travel and exploration relevant. When he lost all hope, an angel named Clarence provided him with heavenly insights that gave George the peace of mind he needed to realize love, family and friendship made him the richest man in Bedford Falls. We’ve all dealt with loans that seemed hopeless at times. And while there currently isn’t a myCUmortgage expert named Clarence, our partners know they have a team of angels that will help provide the peace of mind needed to make that hopeless loan a reality.
The credit union way of doing business is the very definition of holiday spirit. It’s the magic that happens when you believe, just like The Polar Express. It’s the overpowering cheer and happiness of Buddy the Elf that comes with homeownership. And we’d be experiencing exponential cardiac growth much like the Grinch if our hearts weren’t already large enough to contain all the joy we have in helping members with homeownership.
Just as Scrooge experienced at the conclusion of A Christmas Carol, we all have the holiday spirit inside of us every day of the year. Please share your favorite story of homeownership spirit (as well as your favorite holiday movie!).
Here’s to continuing to spread and grow that joy with our members. Have a very happy holiday season, however you may celebrate it!
