Love, Mortgage Style

Valentine’s Day is unlike any holiday or celebration we have on my home planet of Amicitia, but I really like the idea of celebrating “love” in all shapes and forms. And the little paper valentine cards are simply adorable and dare I say funny. That said, I thought it would be fun to share a few mortgage and credit union valentines with you, my loyal readers:

  • Let’s Be Loaners Together! Happy Valentine’s Day!
  • Loan Me Your Heart and I’ll Pay You Back with Interest!
  • Will You Be My… Cosigner?!

Nothing quite shouts out LOVE like mortgages, loans and cosigners! While I jest, those are words and terms that credit union mortgage lenders truly do love to hear because they are referring to something that we love: Our Members. We express this love by conducting our interactions and business with members in the “credit union way.” Being a credit union mortgage lender means so much more than simply closing loans – it means we’re getting members into homes so that they can realize the dream of homeownership.

To help make the dreams of homeownership realities, we go above and beyond the call of duty to overcome any challenges that arise in the pursuit of the dream. We provide service at maximum levels and establish ourselves as the member’s trusted home loan partner. We build relationships with our members as opposed to viewing them as customers or transactions.

If all of this is not love, I don’t know what is.

During these past couple of weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day, I recall two stories that perfectly illustrate the love and passion that credit union mortgage lenders emulate. The first one came from our loan origination team here at myCUmortgage, better known as CU Select. We like to follow up with members to see how their experience was with our loan originator, and in this case, I want to give a huge shout out to CU Select LO Jennifer Kettlewell as she helped a first-time homebuyer with their mortgage.

Instead of paraphrasing it, I want to share exactly what this member had to say: “I’m a first-time home buyer and Jennifer was so good at explaining everything to me and making sure I understood the process. We closed weeks sooner than expected. I’m so thankful for Jennifer’s patience and kindness.”

You must love what you’re doing to deliver that kind of service. Well done, Jennifer!

The second story has a bit of a twist to it, kind of like your twisting spiral galaxy, the Milky Way (which is also a great candy bar). I’ve given props and shout outs before to the myCUmortgage Training Team, and I’m about to do it again. After teaming up with our Partner Onboarding Specialist, together they developed a great opportunity that will allow our team to learn from our partner credit unions while the partner credit unions learn how to get the most out of our loan origination system (LOS).

Working closely with members every day, credit union loan originators have a good feel for industry trends and what members want and need concerning home loans. At myCUmortgage, we specialize in best practices and helping our partners fully utilize the tools and services we provide. Wouldn’t it be great to merge those two together so that we can see inside the loan originator’s processes and practices, and with that information, create training and user guides that cater to exactly what the loan originator needs? Well, that’s exactly what we’ve done, and we already have a success story to share.

During a recent session where our team observed the LO’s processes as they worked through the LOS with a member, our team was able to explain a couple of newer items within the system which the LO was delighted to learn about. These two new items ended up saving the member a nice moon rock of money! Because of that, it was an ideal and welcome opportunity for the LO to reach out to the member and deliver the great news, demonstrating their dedication to being the best home loan partner a homebuyer can have.

Love it, love it, love it!

I could share countless more stories illustrating the love that exists in credit union mortgage lending, and I’m betting that each of you have a few stories as well. I would LOVE for you to share them here, as would all my readers!

In closing, to our current partner credit unions, make sure you’re spreading the mortgage love and doing all you can do to assist your members on their homeownership journey. Your Partner Success Manager would LOVE to help you maximize your efforts, so give them a call (and be sure to wish them a Happy Valentine’s Day – I know they’d appreciate it).

And to credit unions who would like to partner with a mortgage CUSO that can assist you in spreading the homeownership love to your members, resident cupids Dawn and Denise are happy to help get you there. Drop them a line and start loving the credit union way of doing business. Or visit our Become a Partner page to get started.

Let’s keep spreading that credit union mortgage love! Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
