Outside of the myCUmortgage circle, going out in public for me can be difficult. Within the confines of the myCUmortgage experts and our partner credit unions, I can be myself, let my eye stalks down and slither around like there’s no one else there. However, if I do this practically anywhere else, it’s not uncommon to get wry glances, astonished gasps and even a few screams. It’s those darn science-fiction movies, I tell you.
Over Memorial Day weekend, I was invited to the movies with some friends, specifically to see the new Top Gun flick. Fortunately, with all the hype surrounding this motion picture, I expected to see individuals showing up in Top Gun gear and costumes. I was all set – I modified some old gyro training headgear into an F-18 pilot helmet, borrowed an old brown leather jacket from a friend and took on the identity of the newest Top Gun ace, call sign: SLIMER!
Having previewed the previous film on VHS tape from my Earth archives, I can honestly say that all the hype associated with this new film is justified! I won’t go into details or reveal any spoilers, but I do want to talk about a recurring theme in the movie:
It’s not the plane. It’s the pilot.
In other words, success in the skies above isn’t the result of a great aircraft but rather the individual controlling that aircraft. In the case of the original Top Gun, our foes’ MiG-28s were far superior in most engineering and aeronautical aspects to the Navy’s F-14 Tomcats. But it was our pilots who overcame adversity and found themselves on top at the end of the day.
As an interplanetary pilot myself, I can tell you from my own experience that this is true. On several occasions, I’ve witnessed spacecraft that were “past their primes” per se enter dangerous asteroid belts. However, thanks to the aces piloting the craft, they made it through without losing a single communications array.
Heart. Training. Passion. Teamwork. These are all the traits of those Top Gun (and interstellar) pilots. They’re also the traits of credit union mortgage lenders.
At myCUmortgage, we’ve been told on many occasions that the products we offer are commodities, of which I completely agree. Mortgage lenders across the industry share the same types of loan products and services. In fact, some lenders even have more bells and whistles attached to their names, due primarily to the sheer size of their organizations. But we – myCUmortgage and our partner credit unions – have something they don’t have: people.
Yes, other businesses have people, although back home on Amicitia, there were organizations run solely by androids. Kind of creepy even for me! But with myCUmortgage and our partner credit unions, it’s our people, in my opinion, that make the difference because of our commitment to members. It’s that “credit union way” of doing business we always speak of. Five-star service that delivers peace of mind. Our heart. Our training. Our passion. Our teamwork. Build in the trust credit union members have in our commitment to helping them with homeownership through the lifetime of the loan and you have the Top Guns of mortgage lending!
I hope all of you have the chance to see the new film, because as you can see, it’s about much more than turnin’ and burnin’. Watch it from the perspective of yourself, your members and those MiG-28s, and you will clearly see why the F-14 comes out on top every time.
This is MYCU1 – call sign SLIMER – over and out.
