myCUmortgage is based in Beavercreek, Ohio, a suburb east of the Dayton area, for those of you unfamiliar with the local geography. Why is that important, you ask? For the purposes of this blog post, it’s very important.
As any resident of the Buckeye State already knows, Ohio is a special location, meteorologically speaking. I’ve heard comments like, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute.” And, “This is the only place where you need to run your furnace and air conditioner on the same day.”
To say Ohio experiences all four seasons is a huge understatement, so much so that I often question my selection of my alien residency at this location. The fluctuating temperatures, high pressure fronts and unpredictable climate aren’t good for my skin and slime coat. I usually must resort to using synthetic slime – my favorites are Neutroslimea and Ooze of Olay.
Of course, my self-doubt is swiftly vaporized once I think about myCUmortgage and its excellent team of experts. While there are certainly plenty of other mortgage providers across this great planet, it is truly the people at myCUmortgage who make the difference and make me feel at home. But back to the weather… as the seasons change, so does the mortgage market, and our experts are right here to support all their stakeholders. In just a few days, the first day of spring will be upon us, bringing with it the traditional “spring home buying season.” As we transition into a purchase market, the myCUmortgage experts are prepared to assist its partners and members in every way possible. This includes my close personal friends in Marketing!
What the Marketing Team has provided to its partner credit unions – free of charge, mind you – is a marketing calendar. Just as the seasons change, so should the focus of credit union mortgage marketing. This marketing calendar is the perfect tool for providing guidance, timing and suggestions.
Available as part of myCUmortgage’s Marketing Portal, the marketing calendar is broken down in two different ways, providing more choices to match up with individual credit union needs:
- Strategy by Season: Your members buy homes year-round, but there is still the traditional season of the warmer months when the market is the hottest. This helps you stay in front of your members all year with mortgage messaging, making the most of the peak season.
- Maximize Each Month: Repeating your mortgage message helps ensure that when the time is right to buy or refinance, your members will think of your credit union. This option lays out the use of at least two channels per month to communicate with members and potential borrowers.
With both suggested marketing schedules, areas and topics on which to focus are highlighted with the marketing collateral and communications channels available through the Marketing Portal. Again, this is all free of charge to partner credit unions. Here’s an example of what you’ll find on the marketing calendar:
Looking at the seasonal schedule, April through August is the prime time for mortgage lending, including providing members with education and action items via:
- Website mortgage section enhancements
- Homepage banners
- Social media posts, including a blog
- Direct mail and/or email
- Branch signage
- Flyers
- Advertisements
Plus, there’s more good material on the horizon, including materials focused on first-time homebuyers, which should be available in a few weeks. This, along with the millennial campaign that went live in December, are the perfect tools to integrate into your marketing calendar and focus on the purchase market.
