Year One is in the Books

“Time flies when you’re having fun.” This is one of the many adages that I’ve picked up here on Earth that I can totally embrace. Traveling around the vast universe at light speed literally makes time fly, after all.

And talk about time flying; for me, the past 12 months have absolutely taken me to hyper-active speed (10 points for whoever gets that reference). It was one year ago that I, Mort the Mortgage Mentor, made my very first blog post here! It seems like just yesterday that I was working on that post at my crypto-tablet clicking away at this modified QWERTY keyboard. And the best part is that the fun grows with every post I write because you’re sharing this journey with me.

To celebrate this One Year Anniversary, I thought it would be enlightening to look back at the previous 12 months and reflect upon what I’ve learned as an ordinary alien living on your extraordinary planet.

For starters, I can tell you that this alien has grown, both literally and figuratively. I’ve literally put on a few bulds (that means gravity-based pounds, to you), growing out instead of up. I blame myself—my writing pod is located within a tentacle’s reach of my food compartment, which is loaded with my favorite Earth goodies: Moon Pies, Tang, Freeze-Dried Neapolitan Ice Cream and Milky Way bars.

Apart from these physical changes, I’ve grown figuratively in many other ways:

  • I’ve grown to become fully invested in the credit union way of doing business. Pardon the pun, but this concept was very alien to me. While I’ve been in the mortgage business on my home planet for a very long time, I didn’t realize what I was missing until I joined myCUmortgage. It’s about people helping people. We don’t go into the work day thinking, “I’m going to close 10 mortgage loans today.” We go into it with members on our minds: “I’m going to help 10 members with home ownership today.”
  • I’ve grown to learn what a true partnership is all about. We’ve all seen business partnerships in the past or might have even been heavily involved in said partnerships; however, myCUmortgage takes “partnership” to an entirely new level. Referencing another of your Earth sayings, they not only talk the talk but also walk the walk. Everyone at myCUmortgage subscribes to and lives by their Brand Promise, delivering Exceptional Leadership, Comprehensive Solutions, Expert Guidance, Partner and Member Focused Service and Peace of Mind to our credit union partners and their members.
  • My passion for mortgages has grown. On the surface, mortgages my not seem very exciting. But consider a few things. It is likely the biggest purchase a human will make in their life. The mortgage process isn’t something your members deal with every day, so they need guidance. Who better to guide them and deliver upon their dream of home ownership than their trusted credit union? Seeing these dreams fulfilled is what fuels this passion; helping partners help their members only makes that passion grow. Just writing this is getting me pepped up with a happy glow in my eyes. If I had a mouth, I’d be smiling ear-to-ear… but I don’t have ears either. Still, you get my point.

Focusing on these three things, I believe, has not only helped us continue doing business in this rapidly changing world, but has helped us excel. Our partner credit unions and their members need our expertise, collaboration and the passion we bring to the table to keep the credit union way thriving. Together, we continue to reach new heights by getting record numbers of members into homes and being by their sides throughout the life of their loans by servicing those mortgages.

So, Happy Anniversary to all of us! Someday in the hopefully not so distant future, I’ll invite you all over to my spaceship to celebrate. We’ve certainly earned it. And don’t worry about there being room in the ship for everyone—with this cool molecular displacement gadget I have, it enables my ship to function much like a clown car at the circus!

Finally, please continue to follow and support this blog. Don’t hesitate to let me know what is on your mind or topics you’d like to see addressed. I’m excited to hear from you and thrilled to continue providing insights you need to become GREAT mortgage lenders!
